General InformationNigeria uses the single class filing system and follows the latest edition of the Nice classification of trademarks. Trademarks last for 7 years from the filing date and are renewable every 14 years thereafter.

General InformationThe types of patents granted in Nigeria include Patents, Utility Methods and Business Methods. Patents lasts for 20 years, Utility Methods lasts for 10 years, Business Methods lasts for 8 years. Patent examination is not substantive. Once all the required documents are filed, a Patent will be granted. However there are certain subject matters that would not be granted as a patent.

General InformationDesign applications do not go through substantive examination. Once all the required documents are filed a Design certificate will be issued. Design applications relate to only a single Design. Multiple Designs cannot be filed in one application. Designs last for 15 years subject to renewal every 5 years.
